Description
Our Best Selling Single-Origin Decaf
Our Decaf Peru Penachi is a Shade-Grown Organic, Fairtrade Certified, Swiss Water Processed, medium bodied coffee with a sweet, cocoa-like aroma.
The Region
The Penachi is about six hours North of the Coastal city of Chiclayo, Peru. Because the area is very desolate and remote, there is very little commercial activity beyond coffee and sustenance harvesting of tropical fruit and herbs. About 100 miles inland from the Pacific Coast, there is Andes Mountain Jungle, at elevation between 110 and 1500 meters above sea level, that separates Peru from Ecuador. It is here in these mountains, that our organic coffee is grown. This area is without modern technology. Most villages, even one half hour from the main North / South highway, have only gravel roads, no electricity or telephone communication systems. But it is here, in this poorest of areas, that the farmers are working the hardest, with the most cooperation and commitment, we have been able to bring technological assistance to train them in active organic growing practices, to improve their harvesting, processing and drying methods, so their coffee will meet our quality standards.
The people are from a very traditional Inca Indian culture, very proud of their heritage, and proud to pass that heritage on their children. It is here in the Penachi region that we had the first “Organic Coffee Festival”, and the crowning of the “Queen of Cafe Organico!” We danced, we feasted and we celebrated1 this was one of the most rewarding and memorable moments in the many years of developing organic coffee projects. The people are in need of medical facilities, education, books, adequate roads, electricity and so much more. Because of improvements and commitment to the quality of their coffee, they are taking steps to begin to bring improvement to their lives and communities. The growers group has grown to nearly 300 certified organic farms in the Penachi region.
PRODUCER BACKGROUND
While women have always been crucial to coffee production in Peru, men traditionally held the economic power. In 2004, 464 female coffee producers in Peru united to change this dynamic and take a step toward empowerment. They decided to separate their coffee production from men to gain visibility and a voice inside their community. Working in partnership with OPTCO, they developed a never-before-existing market for women-produced coffee to serve as an important vehicle for social change and the empowerment of poor, marginalized women coffee farmers. Since then, the Café Femenino movement now includes thousands of women farmers from nine countries across the world.
Café Femenino requires participating cooperatives to give their women farmers control of revenues, land ownership, and acknowledgement for their exceptional coffee. With economic control in their hands, the women farmers of Cecanor have used Café Femenino funds to invest in community betterment projects including children’s libraries, schools, health and nutritional education, and programs that build self-esteem, human rights awareness, and literacy.

I’m that woman….the one who drinks coffee solely for the flavor and the ritual, not the buzz. I’ve been enjoying Kaladi’s Decaf Peru Penachi for several years now. I drink it mainly as espresso (Americano and latte) but also as French Press and pourover. No matter what way I brew it, the smooth richness of the Peru Penachi comes through. No bitterness at all, but lots of nuanced flavors. Can’t be beat if you’re a decaf lover!

As a retired barista I have always favored the rich round flavors Air roasting provides. This is a truly delicious de caf the delivers the robust flavors of a full caffeinated roast. I love that those of us who have to limit caffeine do not have to limit taste. Thanks Kaladi! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This has become my go to decaf. it does not taste over roasted which I feel that 99.9% of decaf is over roasted because of the processes other roasters use. If you are looking for a smooth decaf coffee, which tastes like caf coffee, you need to try this blend.
